Mr. Shum was educated in Wong Shiu Chi Secondary School. He passed the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations in 1981. He got admitted as a Solicitor in Hong Kong in 1984. Later, he obtained Diploma in Chinese Law from University of East Asia and China Law Society, and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from The University of Wolverhampton.
Since 1985, Mr. Shum has been a visiting lecturer in Business and Company Law for Hong Kong Management Association, Hong Kong Polytechnic/ University, Lingnan University, Asia International Open University, City University of Macau, University of Wales, Glyndwr University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong School of Continuing & Professional Studies.
Mr. Shum is also an Academic Assessor in Business and Company Law of The University of Hong Kong SPACE.
In recent years, Mr. Shum has shifted his areas of practice from civil litigation and conveyancing to notary and China attestation works.
